Activities and the Glencoe and Fort WIlliam Area
With its all year round outdoor season Fort William, Lochaber has a valid claim to be the outdoor capital of the UK. Whether its bouldering, climbing, hill walking, skiing, snow boarding, fishing conoeing, sailing, scuba diving, or any other of the numerous activities on offer you will always find something interesting and varied to do. There are lots of interesting places to visit with the Islands of Mull, Iona, and Lismore fantastic day trips. Closer to home there is the Glencoe national trust visitor centre, numerous castles including the spectacular Castle Stalker in Appin, and also the thriving market towns of Oban and Fort William.
For those who enjoy hill walking, world famous Glencoe with its numerous walks is just three miles away whilst Ben Nevis Britain's highest mountain is fourteen miles away. For the less energetic there are quieter walks along the shore or along the old railway track, now being converted into a SUSTRANS cycle path, both of which are directly adjacent to the house. The famous Horseshoe walk including two Munros for Munro baggers is in Glenachulish itself- just 5 minutes to the start of the walk from the cottage.
For Mountain biking Fort William is proud to host the World Mountain Biking Championships each year on the thrilling Aonach Mhor track. The track isopen to the public all year and offers some thrilling mountain biking which is the best in the UK.

Leisure Centres and Pools
Pools and leisure centres at Fort William and Oban. There is also the pool at the Hollytree Hotel which you are welcome to use free of charge during your stay.
Golf
The Dragons Tooth is a new 9 hole course beside Ballachulish House (½ mile away).
Fishing
Sea fishing simply across the road or off the pier at Kentallen or along the shore. Loch fresh water Loch fishing locally by arrangement.
Sailing
You are welcome to bring your own boat. By arrangement with the Holly Tree hotel you can use the slipway for launching into Loch Linnhe. For larger boats there is an anchorage in Kentallen Bay.
Skiing
Ski lifts at Aonach Mor and Glencoe. Hire facilities in Fort William.
Riding
There is a riding centre in Appin 10 miles to the south.
Mountain Activity Centre
Ice Factor in Kinlochleven. This is the worlds biggest Indoor Ice Wall and the UK's highest articulated rock wall.
